Headboard

This is a headboard that I am working on refinishing for Sam's big boy bed.
Any suggestions or ideas?

    Can you remove the middle weaved part at all? You could tack some padding onto the front of them, then cover them with some fabric.

    What if you paint the woven part one color and the wooden part another color? That could look cool.
