We were on NIGHTLINE!

This is our second media appearance this week! This is for the Chick Fil A opening we went to this summer and Nightline - ABC News did a clip on it. We are seen a little in the beginning and also when the video states: "3.55". Let me know if you have trouble.

We made the paper Lilly!

We are in a photo gallery for the Washington Post!
We are the second photo! How fun!

...our saturday at the country fair...

...okay so here are some more photos from our trip out to fox country Virginia... The girls were thrilled to get their faces painted and I wasn't really supervising but watching from a distance. It was the most horrible face painting ever. Nate and I were laughing about it tonight. It was so caked on their faces and was gross paint and bless those 4-H teenagers for doing it but... I have learned my lesson. When I tried to wipe it off with baby wipes, it stained their skin the entire weekend!
Here is Gracie sitting so still!
Ritie becoming a kitty cat.
The final product... cute faces under that paint!
Nate would not allow Sam to get painted and he wanted to so badly! He climbed on the chair and sat. But you can see, they got distracted by the bunnies. We were very excited to visit the "Baby Barn" until we learned it was actually a place for nursing human moms... then we were not so excited.
Grace's first pony ride around the pasture. Rita got very scared and didn't want to do it afterall.
This was a bee demonstration. They were also selling local honey and if you know me... I am crazy about local honey. I almost bought 5 gallons of it for $55. Instead I opted for a smaller quantity. We could show the kids the queen bee because they "marked" it with a green dot. Later on in the parking area, I got stung by a bee on my arm which proceeded to hurt and swell for FIVE days. I still enjoy local honey though!
Nate loved this exhibit. It was a local train hobby club that set up their trains. While we were there, The Washington Post took the kids photos for the newspaper! The best train exhibit I have ever seen and the kids were able to operate the controls.

Signs

We went to a country fair this weekend and had a lot of fun. It wasn't as crowded as the events that are usually held in the DC area. I will post some photos here in the next day or two but meanwhile I had some funny photos to share.

Sammy diapering Adidas who won't move.
This sign was up at a clogging demo, I couldn't figure out what on earth they would have this up for?!?!

What if you just wanted the baked goods that were made in the regulated kitchen?

Grace took this for me! Big milestone - 29 weeks!

Friends and Nephew

Nate took the girls away for the weekend and I had 6 of my girlfriends from college visit. It was a nice visit - I hosted the group and we stayed up really late each night. I am 110% wiped out from it all! We went to the thrift shop on Friday and here is a snapshot. We also visited a close friend who just had her baby boy Noah.
On a different note, my brother and his family, with my mom, are flying to the Phillipines tomorrow to pick up their 13 year old son. They have three children already (9, 6, and 3) so this will really be a great addition to the family! I am very excited for them and to hear all the details.

funny things they say

Rita: "Daddy, can I help you clean the kitchen tonight?"
Nate: "No this is how I show mommy I love her."
Rita: "Daddy, can I love you?"

Grace: "Kindergarten makes my head explode."
Andrea: "Why Grace?"
Grace: "Because I love it... but just a little bit."

Sam (as Grace is leaving the van this morning for school in the carpool lane): "Hug?? Hug??"

First Day of Kindergarten!

First homework assignment: puppet.
First school breakfast - oatmeal.
On our way to school: 7:30 AM. It was rainy!
I wasn't able to get a photo of her so a friend of mine went back in to get this photo! I was so proud of her, she was so happy to walk into her Kindergarten class.

Trinity Christian Open House

We just got back from our open house for Grace. It is a very nice and professional (what we wanted!) school and we are thrilled she has three friends in her class. Two are from church and one is from our old MOPS group. It seems like I was running into people from my Bible Study, MOPS, and Oakton YoungLife everywhere! All the teachers and parents seem wonderful. Here are a few photos. As soon as we got home, our cat Adidas sat on her new totebag and wouldn't budge. Guess she doesn't want Grace to leave her each morning!!

Bee STING!

Grace got stung by a bee this morning at the park behind our house. They have a playhouse and they must of stepped in a nest. Rita wouldn't run away when I went to try and get her out and I got stung (she was scared to death).

8th anniversary

Yesterday was our 8th anniversary. It was the first one that we couldn't find a babysitter and go out to eat so we went out for dessert with the kids. They rolled around the floor and booths and when we got up, the lady next to us says, "cute kids." I said, "oh it is our anniversary - we couldn't find a sitter." She told me she had many of those! It was funny. We do have a sitter for tonight though for an open house at school for Grace, I am so excited for her!

Drama yesterday. We had woken up from naps and were out front in the yard when I saw TWO RATS in our grass. You are probably shocked but don't be. We have rats in our neighborhood because we live close to a grocery store alley. Anyways, Nate wasn't home yet, I didn't know what to do so I called my dad. I asked him if I could put a garbage can upside down on it and he said to stay away from it if it was dead or looked sick. Then he told me to call animal control.

So I called them. They didn't laugh at me, they sent the truck over. My neighbors came out - oh the drama! The guy - "Crawford" - got gloves and determined they were baby squirrels (they were big baby squirrels and had big long thin tails - that is why I thought rats.) One was dead and upside down. The other one was crying. He put it on our tree so it could work its way back up the tree and told us to go inside so the mom would come out. Within two minutes the mom squirrel came down and grabbed it in its mouth and ran with it up the tree. My kids were screaming and so excited! Nate was just rolling his eyes.
